Move over downward facing dogs. Cats have taken over yoga. Do you know the latest trend in yoga? Get your cat to your yoga mat and do some meowga. Carry the beautiful experience with you the entire day.
If you have a cat at home, you may have noticed how the curious little monster wants to join you on the yoga mat. Instead of getting annoyed at the situation, when you actually embrace it to start a whole new yoga trend, you are the guru of peace and happiness. And here’s why it is a whole lot of fun.
And here’s why it is a whole lot of fun.
As you can see, you don’t have to really do anything. The cat will do its job because its simply needs to scratch its back, wants your attention and is a curious little thing. This just makes it aperfect yoga companion, a stress buster like no other. You will smile as you plank, cuddle as you lie in child’s pose. You will just add a lot of happiness to your yoga sessions. Which is why yoga studios all over Canada are encouraging their members to get their cats to the studio once a week. They are even tying up with local shelters to get all their cats some meowga activity. Fun, eh? Here’s another reason why you should give this a shot. The sound of purr! “Soft kitty. Warm kitty. Little ball of fur! Happy kitty. Sleepy kitty. Purr Purr Purr.” Do you remember this cute lullaby from your childhood? You must have seen Penny sing it to Sheldon on Big Bang Theory quite often. The sound of purr is considered one of the most relaxing sounds in the world. Combine the purr with the powerful chanting of Ommm and you have yourself the ultimate peace concoction for your soul. Combining the cuteness of cats with anything is always a good idea. But combining it with yoga means that it is going to enhance the happy factor and hence, make your asanas more effective at nourishing you from within.
If you don’t agree with us, we’ll have a cat explain it to you.
Did we just hear an Awwwwwmmmm? Meowga is a whole lot of fun and a welcome change from the spin, flow, hot yoga loop that you already follow. Give it a shot and tell us how you liked it. We’d love to hear your Meowga stories and see your pictures or videos. Share your thoughts on Facebook and Instagram. #KeepMoving and namaste.
We all strive to reach new personal bests and to perfect every pose we attempt, and we all know the importance of being supported in our practice of Yoga. A Great yoga session deserves a supportive and comfortable yoga mat, and Manduka may have perfected the very surface we do our yoga on.
What’s different about Manduka yoga mats? We love Manduka because of their commitment to sustainable product development and manufacturing. Manduka’s mats are ethically produced in Germany from the most sustainable materials possible, often utilizing biodegradable components. They’re also sustainable because they are designed to last a lifetime, and like no other yoga mat, come with a lifetime guarantee. Really.
For those looking for the most support and extremely dense construction (and a selection of bright and muted colours), the Manduka PRO series is very likely the standard in luxurious yoga mats.
This really is the mother of all yoga mats, and one that you’ll often find at the front of the class — chosen by many yoga instructors as a go-to mat in all styles of yoga.
Many times though, you may prefer a lighter mat and this is where the design of the Manduka PROlite series came from. Although not as thick as the PRO series, the PROlite offers support for any style of yoga, in a lighter design that’s easier to carry around town.
In either case, Manduka’s mats have become particularly popular for Hot Yoga due to their ability to prevent slipping regardless of how much sweat is brought into the equation.
Check out our full selection of Manduka’s products, and treat yourself to the ultimate in support and comfort. In addition, be sure to check out some of the awesome mat carriers, yoga bags, towels and other accessories from Manduka we have in our store!
Despite yoga being so popular, it’s surprising how many people still think that yoga is about stretching. The more I practice yoga the more I learn how multidimensional it is. Every year, in the past 8 years, I learn something new about yoga. I am not super flexible by nature, and while, of course, I do notice physical changes in my body, the most important transformation I find the way I can bring my yoga practice from the mat and into the world. It took me so long to actually understand that yoga is actually about learning how to bring your yoga theory to practice it daily, in real life.
They say: how (well) you practice yoga on the mat, is how (well) you will be able to practice it OFF the mat. So, it seems the answer comes naturally – you really have to make sure your yoga mat supports you on your journey. And I can’t tell you how excited I was to open that Affirmats Yoga Mats box when it arrived at the YogaHive HQ.
Of course, I had to test-drive one of them… I was familiar with the brand, from the Internet, but I’ve never seen one in “person” so it was especially exhilarating to step on my “ Breathe in Love” Affirmat, and feel its funky jute texture.
What’s cool about Affirmats is that they serve double purpose – they allow for a dynamic practice, while reminding you about your intention throughout your yoga class.
If you practice yoga at home, having it unrolled somewhere close to your bedroom, so you see it first thing in the morning when you get up, might be that little inspiration you need sometimes to start your day from the right foot. My Affirmat always makes me to do a handstand first thing in the morning… And while I am on it, I try to remind myself to breathe in love, for a more peaceful (rooted in the present moment) day ahead.
